Is this bag suitable for use on aeroplane, or does it need to be a more solid case for flying?

The best way to protect a bike when flying, apart from buying your own airplane, is to use a hard box. I've seen mine being dropped 3 metres onto the runway from the hold and then have another bike dropped ontop of it.
However a hard shell box is costly and takes up space for the other 50 weeks of the year when you don't use it

This bag is padded and will give a fair amount of knock protection. This can be increased with extra foam such as pipe lagging around each tube and additional bubble wrap.

So for £35 squid (as apposed to about 10X the price for a box) you ger a reasonable level of protection.
