Exe Valley Tri Race Report Empty Exe Valley Tri Race Report

Post  SPrice Tue May 10, 2011 4:20 am

Can't say much more than people have posted already about yesterday's race, great day, good atmosphere and well organised as usual. Shame about the mud!

I have sent a race report (below) to the Express and Echo with some decent piccies, I'll keep you posted when this goes in paper.

"The hugely popular Exe Valley Triathlon took place on Sunday 8 May 2011 at Tiverton Leisure Centre. The race, in its sixth year, was a sell out yet again with 312 entrants taking part in the novice and sprint events. The men’s sprint was won by Pete Norris of RAF Tri in 01:00:34, with Exeter’s Lucy Commander winning the female event in 01:11:24. Exeter Tri club had an excellent day yet again with Wim Korving and Sue Walker taking second place in their respective categories.

A blustery day saw 36 novice triathletes competing in their first race, highlighting the rapid growth in triathlon every year. Gary Ashelford and Anne Marie Selway were the first male and female novices to finish.

The sprint distance involved swimming 400m, cycling 24km and running 5km, with the novice category swimming 200m, cycling 20km and running 3km.

“The event has been a great success and we are delighted with the amount of entrants, support on the day from friends and family and great work by the event marshals who make this race possible. It seems to sell out more quickly each year so future competitors will need to be quick off the mark to get a place next year,” said Andy Evans, Event Manager.

If you are interested in taking part in this race in 2012 or want to find out more about triathlon go to www.exetertri.co.uk."
