Triathletes required for new study Empty Triathletes required for new study

University of Exeter student and member of the club Tom Hood is looking for 3 trained male triathletes who have competed in an olympic distance triathlon within the last year to participate in a new study. Is any body interested in helping him out in his study? See below for details....

"Thank you for showing an interest in this project. Please read this information sheet carefully before deciding whether or not to participate. If you decide to participate, we thank you in advance for the time and effort you have decided to devote to our investigation. If you decide not to take part, there will be no disadvantage to you of any kind and we thank you for considering our request.

What is the aim of the project?
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of different glycaemic index (GI) carbohydrate drinks and their timing of ingestion on Olympic distance triathlon cycle and running time trial (TT) performance. Ingestion of different GI carbohydrates either before or during prolonged exercise have been shown to effect cycling and running performance in different ways, however few studies have looked into the combined effect of ingestion both before and during exercise. Furthermore, very few studies are triathlon specific in this field of research. The aim of this project is to investigate whether carbohydrate GI and ingestion timing can significantly effect triathlon cycling and running performance.

What types of participants are needed?
We are looking for trained male triathletes between 18 and 45 years of age, who have competed in an Olympic distance event during the current year. To take part in the study you should be in good health and be free of any injuries which might make it difficult for you to carry out high-intensity cycling and running."
