TOPSHAM TO TURF SWIM
Saturday 15th August 2009
1.20P.M.

Registration by 1.20p.m. at the Topsham Ferry Slip Road.
Approximately 1500 metres downriver and turn right to the start of the canal at Turf.

Camp-followers can get the ferry across to the canal towpath and then walk/jog to the Turf Locks in time for the finish and to give towels and cloths to swimmers. There will be the opportunity for a beer and probably partake in the pub Barbie before strolling back to catch the ferry back to Topsham.

BURGH “ROUND THE ISLAND” RACE
Bank Holiday Monday 31st August 2009
5.00 p.m.

This is a mile swim anticlockwise around the island. Last year the organisation was fairly “agricultural” and there didn’t appear to be a real lifeguard presence, but it is a fantastic swim for confident people as you have to navigate through rocks, swim out to the weather side of the island next to sea cliffs and part-submerged rocks and then swim against the sheet-current flowing across the submerged beach between the island and Bigbury.

Finishers get a tot of Navy Rum and there is a free Barbie. The race is free to enter.

Last year Oli was in the prizes and they thanked us because they liked the presence of what the described as “real athletes”!

Some people are thinking of camping at Bigbury on the weekend. The most appropriate site is Mount Folly Farm. This is basic (no showers) and, but it is nearby, being just up the hill form Bigbury village. Telephone 01548 810267.

I'm tempted to have a go at this swim. It sounds lovely!

Do I have to enter before-hand, or can I do it on the day?

I would prefer to travel there on 'race day', so if anyone else is going and wants to share a lift, I'd be glad of some companionship - and directions - or a chauffeur!

Tempted by this one too - but not too sure on swimming in the mud!!

PS: Not entered or got any sponsorship. Do you HAVE to get sponsorship? Can't you just swim it for the 'fun' of it?!

I'm up for it, but would have to get back as working early the following day so wouldn't camp

I'd like to do the Burgh Island swim, but don't want to camp either (don't like bugs.... ), so happy to join up and car share if you like?

I'm hearing that Burgh Island is full and are not taking any more entries.

Is this true? How can this be?! Where was this advertised and where were the entry forms?

Well I PM'd Dave P my name as soon as I saw this posting requesting them - but heard nothing back!

He did say at the Monday eve swim session prior to the posting that he had a certain number of entries for members - but I've heard nothing since.

i spoke to dave after the swim yesterday, he said the event was full and that he had missed the interest shown by ourselves on the forum so names weren't put forward, he did say he would speak to the organisers and see if we could get in.

That SUCKS!!!

StuP - I'll PM you my number, can you send me a text if you get any word of an entry? or even 2, cause I don't think we'll both fit in the same wetsuit.....
